New Contemporary Home

When this client was ready to build their home it was time to downsize as the empty nest stage of living was upon them.  As the hired designers on a new construction project, getting to know our clients and how they live in their homes is one of the most important parts of good design and our job.  It allows us to create a home that is uniquely your own.

Over the years this client has acquired piece by piece, a  colorful collection of glass and artwork that had never had the opportunity to be displayed well. As we planned the details it was important for us to create ledges with lighting to allows the beauty of the glass pieces to really shine.  And since we are often involved at the blue print stage of design, it allows us creative input for just these details.

Of course lighting is key as well. you will notice that we have designed and placed accent lighting in all areas of this home and it really pops the colors.  The decorative entry chandelier, wall sconces, dinette light fixture and pendants were a nod to the contemporary and whimsical feel of this home.

We designed the white kitchen for function and efficiency with an exposed stainless steel hood as a focal point.  White was an important finish here as it allows the art collection and colors surrounding the room pop.  Granite counters on the island and perimeter cabinets were chosen in a white gray combination.  As the island bridges the kitchen and living room we wanted this piece to have a furniture feel and the tapered legs and paneled back and sides really achieved the look.

The floor is an espresso black with open graining.  The wide dark plank of this floor in contrast with the white trim package  really creates a ying yang feel in this home.

The horizontal fireplace and drywall ledge floating shelf give a nice asymmetrical balance to the room.  This particular fireplace wall design was sketched by our lead designer onsite as we realized the TV would now need to be located here.  Its just these kinds of last minute decisions that can really make or break the design and why its so important to have a designer part of your team to help with design ideas and planning during your new build.    To see more of this home you can click here.
